Mohammed Ali Al-Husseini, secretary-general of the Arab Muslim Council, based in Lebanon, said here recently that Saudi Arabia enjoys the trust of the international community as the first reference for the Muslim world.

The Lebanese Shiite leader cited the high prestige enjoyed by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in the hearts of the Muslim world.

Al-Husseini made his observation during his meeting with Minister of Islamic Affairs, Endowments, Call and Guidance Sheikh Saleh Al-Asheikh, when they exchanged views on a number of issues relating to Islamic work in various fields.

“Saudi Arabia has always been seen in its great leadership and position in the hearts of the Muslims. It gains more trust and appreciation by the international community as the major and first reference for Muslim affairs in the world, no matter how some have tried to say otherwise,” he said.

On the Saudi-led Operation Decisive Storm, he said he already stressed his support in several interviews that the operation launched by Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman was meant to restore stability to Yemen, and install Arabism and stability at the same time.

“I will not forget the historic initiatives undertaken by the Kingdom toward issues of the region,” he said. “For example, in 1989, the Kingdom was all the way with Lebanon until the moment all Lebanese factions gathered in Taif, and the enormous efforts spent to reconcile among themselves and to overcome the obstacles.”

He said: “King Salman firmly stood against any threat aimed at Arab and Muslim security in general, or the security of the Arabian Gulf and its particular area.”

He said the chain of events underlines Saudi Arabia’s role of big brother to the Arab nation. It has played a crucial role in the most trying of circumstances, he added.
