More than 5.5 million students on Sunday resumed school across the Kingdom after the Eid Al-Adha holiday.

The Director of Educational Information in the General Education Directorate in Makkah, Abdulaziz Al-Thaqafi, said that the resumption of school coincides with the 85th National Day of the Kingdom, noting that celebrations in schools started even before students left for the Eid holiday.

He added that the celebrations include shows and songs as well as competitions and speeches to highlight the great developments that have taken place in the Kingdom during the reign of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

He said that Jeddah schools received more than 650,000 pupils and 130,000 teachers after the Eid holiday.

The director of the education office in Al-Qatif also issued a directive to school principals to follow up on the preparation of the school environment so as to ensure that they are ready to receive pupils.

In a message ahead of the opening of the schools, he stressed the importance of a strong start, saying that schools should also be ready from a hygiene point of view, which includes the proper functioning of all air conditioning units at least two days before pupils go back to schools.

The director also said that supervisors from the Al-Qatif education office should visit the schools to make sure that the educational process is progressing well and confirmed that the resumption of studies will be achieved according to the proper educational plan.

Al-Qatif Traffic Directorate also prepared a plan that includes the deployment of officers to all corners and intersections from the early morning to facilitate the arrival of teachers and pupils to their schools in a calm fashion. Police patrols were deployed across a number of locations that experience dense traffic movement during school hours.

The Makkah Traffic Department began implementing a plan to monitor traffic movement and follow the flow of traffic through the streets of the city.

The implementation coincided with the reopening of schools and universities after the Eid Al-Adha vacation.

Traffic patrol squads also continue to carry on normal daily tasks in Makkah by organizing traffic flow and monitoring markets, shopping malls and government agencies which witness heavy traffic every day.

Mamdouh Al-Hazmi, director of Makkah Traffic Department, said traffic patrols and members will be concentrated in front of schools, universities, colleges and government buildings to regulate traffic movement and to avoid traffic jams or overcrowding of vehicles because of the unlawful parking.

“The department is focusing on all incorrect driving practices and will not allow any kind of harassment for the citizens and residents of Makkah. Secret patrols will be deployed all over in order to detect negative practices,” said Al-Hamzi.

He affirmed that punishments would be applied to all violators without exception.
