Fire at KFMC; no injuries
A well-known medical city in the capital reported a fire in an area under construction near the nurses’ quarters within the premises.
However, the flames, which were noticed around just after 9 p.m. on Saturday night, affected neither hospital operations nor the flow of work or the patients, said the hospital’s official media outlet.
There were no injuries although residents near the fire were evacuated as a safety measure. The incident happened at the-state-of-the art King Fahd Medical City (KFMC) located in the heart of Riyadh. The city has been undergoing a massive expansion as part of its development program.
KFMC, considered the largest and most advanced medical complex in the Middle East, has a total capacity of 1,095 beds. Its vision is to be the benchmark in terms of specialized health care.
“Some social media users posted images on their accounts that prompted our media department at KFMC to place the facts before the public,” the official said.
According to the Civil Defense team that immediately arrived on the site, the fire was caused by building material, including wood stock used for construction.
The flames, noticed between the buildings under construction, were quickly dowsed before they could spread.
A media official told Arab News that it was a minor fire that was handled by the Civil Defense in a timely and effective manner.
The KFMC’s official Twitter account explained that inpatient medical appointments remained unaffected.
