A source at the Philippine Embassy in the Kingdom said that the embassy has ceased cooperation with ten recruitment companies because they did not abide by the rules and conditions stipulated in previous agreements between the two countries. The source noted that generally the embassy does not interfere with the work of recruitment offices in this way, unless there is an official complaint from Filipino offices or workers about them.

With this in mind, the source said that the embassy received complaints against these ten companies in relation to delayed wages, failure to send workers back after the expiry of their contract, in addition to not informing the embassy about workers absconding because of legal issues.

The source said that a number of procedures have been taken to curb the flow of Filipino labor to the Kingdom, such as setting the number of workers who can be recruited to seven each week per company. However, the embassy source denied that the Philippines is moving towards stopping recruitment thanks to recent positive developments in the Saudi Ministry of Labor laws.
