An Egyptian man has been arrested for allegedly killing a Saudi mother and her Kuwaiti daughter while they were visiting the country in search of an apartment.

The deceased were identified as a 61-year-old Saudi woman and her 27-year-old daughter, according to reports in Egyptian media. The bodies of the two women were found in a 20-meter-deep well on a piece of land owned by the man in Al-Menia district.

Initial investigations showed that the suspect had gone to his residence in Asyut. He apparently worked for the victims in Saudi Arabia and had allegedly convinced the Saudi mother to buy an apartment in the Egyptian capital.

The woman and her daughter went to Cairo on Aug. 27 and were scheduled to return to Kuwait in September before they went missing. The village where they were found is 240 km from Cairo.

The Kuwaiti daughter had sent out a message to her friend in Kuwait via social media saying that she was kidnapped. The police were able to use the information to determine their location.

Egyptian security services revealed that the mother and daughter had 35,000 Kuwaiti dinars in cash in the hotel apartment they rented in Cairo. The deceased had told her brother during a phone conversation she had deposited the money for the apartment in an Egyptian bank.

There has been no information released by the Egyptian authorities about the women or the suspect.

However, sources quoted by local media said the man is the only suspect in the double murder.
