The governorate here has warned citizens that they would be punished for marrying illegal expatriate women without permission, especially those living in southern border villages, a local publication reported Thursday.

Ali bin Mousa Zalla, spokesman of the governorate, said citizens had been warned to obey the country’s laws in a directive issued by Jazan Gov. Prince Mohammad bin Nasir recently to mayors and other top officials.

He said the governorate has a special department that documents marriages, including children born from these unions. There is particular attention given to marriages where citizens have married foreign women without visas.

Meanwhile, he said Prince Mohammad is paying special attention to traffic accidents in the region because of the injuries and loss of life recorded recently.

A study has been launched to determine the causes of these accidents, and to call for the immediate installation of Saher cameras on local roads, he said.

Zalla said the governor has also ordered that traffic officers and other security officials undergo special training to deal with congestion and violations on the region’s roads.
