KSA highlights its resolute campaign against terror
The Kingdom has been a victim of terrorism despite its fight against the menace at local and regional levels, a senior Saudi official told a global forum in Geneva.
Saudi Arabia has suffered 124 terror attacks since 2003 leading to the deaths of 100 Saudis and residents, Ahmad bin Mohammad Al-Salim, undersecretary at the Ministry of Interior, said.
Seventy-one security personnel lost their lives while 407 were injured during these attacks, he said, adding that Saudi security forces killed 176 terrorists and foiled 250 terror attacks.
The official was speaking at the 17th International Summit on Transnational Crime and Homeland and Global Security Forum in Crans Montana,
He also said the Kingdom, as part of its commitment and efforts to root out terrorism, had enacted a number of laws and taken strict measures to counter this menace and block its financing. It has also formed a committee to fight terrorism, he said.
The Kingdom has taken part in endorsing 14 UN resolutions against terrorism and its financing. It had organized an international conference on terrorism which led to the establishment of a global center under the aegis of UN in New York to fight this scourge. The Kingdom also provided financial support of $110 million, he said.
Saudi Arabia is one of the founding members of the Global Forum for Combating Terrorism, Ahmad Al-Salim said.
