People will soon be able to pay in the form of currency notes of SR1 and SR5, instead of just coins, for parking, according to an online newspaper.

Abdullah Al-Ghamdi, director of parking projects at Jeddah Development and Urban Regeneration Company, said that the company was planning to reprogram the parking payment machines to accept SR1 and SR5 currency bills, instead of coins, which are fast disappearing. The process will begin from central Jeddah.

Al-Ghamdi said a lot of people have complained about non-availability of coins to pay for parking. “We have noticed that due to this, coins are being made available in black market. We have reprogrammed some machines to accept SR10 notes. Other alternatives will also be made available for payment instead of cash money.”

In Jeddah, work is under way on some new parking projects. A multi-story parking will also come up soon to accommodate 1,000 cars. A post-paid facility for parking was launched in the Al-Junoubiya market last week.
