Transfer of sponsorship through Abshir from next week.

Saudi Arabia’s Passports Department (Jawazat) will launch two services for the issuance of multiple visas and sponsorship transfer of expatriates through the Abshir electronic system on the portal of the Ministry of Interior from next week.

This was announced by Col. Khaled Hamad Al-Saikhan, assistant director general of Jawazat for technical affairs. He was speaking on the sidelines of the Gitex Technology Week, which kicked off in Dubai on Sunday, the Saudi Press Agency reported.

Al-Saikhan said Maj. Gen. Suleiman Al-Yahya, director general of Jawazat, will formally launch the services during a press conference, scheduled to be held in Riyadh.

At present the sponsorship transfer of workers is being done through muqeem system for companies or through the site of the ministry for establishments.

“When the new system comes into force, transfer of service of expatriates from one individual sponsor to another will be possible through the Abshir system provided that all the terms and conditions are completed,” he said.

It was pointed out that individual sponsors will be the major beneficiaries of the new system.

Meanwhile, Jawazat announced 27 administrative decisions to take penal action against some Saudis and expatriates for providing transportation to illegals.

The penal measures included jail term, fines, confiscation of vehicles, and publishing of names of violators in local newspapers.

Crown Prince Muhammad Bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior, endorsed all these punitive measures.

Most of the violators have been given jail term of six months and fine amounting to SR50,000 while some of them have been fined SR400,000, SR275,000 and SR200,000.

The ministry warned citizens and expatriates against providing transportation or jobs or shelter to violators of labor and residency regulations.
