More than 27,000 SIM cards have been seized in raids on different unauthorized shops here and over SR300,000 recovered from two men suspected to be selling SIMs illegally.

Maj. Gen. Abdul Hadi Al-Shahrani, Madinah region police chief, had ordered the action following information about the clandestine activity in the city.

According to sources, the two arrested suspects are Asians and were carrying SR25,500 and SR 100,860 each. They were suspected to be involved in the illegal sale of SIM cards. The police also recovered SR240,000 from their residence.

The two suspects have been changing residence from time to time, which necessitated the police to lay a trap and arrest them.
