The Bureau of Customs in the Saudi capital recently foiled an attempt to smuggle 544,000 narcotic pills hidden inside plastic bottles labeled “confidential” in a truck.

Customs Director General Ibrahim Al-Anzi said the prohibited drugs were found when customs inspectors stopped the truck. The suspects were turned over to the authorities.

Al-Anzi said that smugglers have been using different tactics to conceal prohibited drugs but the authorities had been alerted about them.

“The smugglers have become innovative in trying to thwart the law on prohibited drugs but our inspectors already know these methods,” he said.

He noted that smugglers have been dealing in various drugs and substances prohibited in the Kingdom such as hashish, marijuana, khat, amphetamines such as Captagon, among others.

“The drugs of choice in the Kingdom are amphetamines like Captagon which is a stimulant,” he said.
