4,000 Saher staff to get same pay at new firm
About 4,000 employers of three companies operating the Saher traffic system would be transferred to the new operating company, falling under the Interior Ministry, from Nov. 1 for the same pay and benefits.
This is according to a source familiar with the process, who said that a meeting would be held in the next few days with officials from the new firm, Technology Control Company Ltd. (TCC).
The TCC has formed partnerships with 12 government agencies including the Civil Defense, Passports Department, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Transport, and the Communications and Information Technology Commission.
The TCC covers various areas including cloud computing, smart cities, Internet of Things and Big Data. It delivers these technologies and solutions through integrated business units including digital security, biometrics and identity management, knowledge management, and communications and information services, according to its website.
Traffic Department officials have reportedly said that the main purpose of the Saher system is to reduce traffic violations and not punish motorists. They claim there has been a significant drop in deaths and injuries on the nation’s roads since the system was introduced.
The system, which uses a combination of high-performance cameras and radars to issue tickets to drivers who speed and run red lights, has not been popular with some drivers since it was introduced on the Kingdom’s roads in 2010.
