Flooding, storms forecast for many areas
There will be thunderstorms, heavy rain, strong winds carrying dust, and possible flooding in parts of the Kingdom over the coming days, according to the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME).
In its forecast issued on Monday, the PME said that the dust raised because of the inclement weather would reduce visibility in Tabuk, Al-Jouf, Hail, Northern Border and Madinah.
There would also be active surface winds, rain and thunderstorms in Asir and Jazan. Similar climatic conditions would also be seen in Makkah, Najran, western parts of Riyadh and eastern parts of Baha, it said.
With expected flooding, the Madinah education department has announced the suspension of classes at all schools in Khaybar, which is about 150 km north of Madinah.
Tabuk Gov. Prince Fahd bin Sultan, who is also head of the region’s Civil Defense, was briefed on precautions being taken for the expected bad weather, including the possibility of flooding.
The briefing took place at his office with Maj. Gen. Mastour Al-Harithi, director of the Civil Defense in the region, and Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Haqbani, the region’s undersecretary.
Prince Fahd urged the Civil Defense to make sure all preparations are in place for the rainy season, coordinate its work with other government agencies and issue warnings to the public.
Col. Mamdouh Anzi, spokesman for the Tabuk Civil Defense, said that the unstable weather would likely last through Tuesday. He urged people to stay away from valleys and follow the safety guidelines issued by the Civil Defense.
