Education Minister Azzam Al-Dakhil opens the seminar on activating the partnership between the universities and the private sector.

Education Minister Azzam Al-Dakhil said Wednesday that the ministry has come up with a strategy to promote the goals of local universities in exploring knowledge.

“Their mission is to support the national output on information and the economy and contribute to the achievement of the Kingdom’s development plans,” Al-Dakhil said.

He made the statement while inaugurating the seminar on activating the partnership between universities and the private sector at King Saud University (KSU).

He said the Education Ministry had worked hard to activate the channels of partnership with the private sector and local universities to attract sources and capabilities to integrate output in scientific research.

“We’re witnessing today huge sectors on scientific research and they have an impressive output,” he said, adding that this shows that “we’re no longer merely a consumer of information but we have also become a producer of knowledge.”

The minister added that the “universities constitute the pinnacle of advanced societies.”

“They no longer merely prepare students academically. They have also grown and expanded their functions,” he said.

He added that universities have been mentoring students, faculty and information industry researchers to serve the national interest under the leadership of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman.

The universities have also become purveyors of information and provide technical content to help realize the dreams and aspirations of the nation and its citizens.

“In the process, the universities also strengthen the Saudi youth’s love of country and contribute to the enrichment and prosperity of the Kingdom in general,” he said.

Badran bin Abdulrahman, KSU director, said that “attention to human capital is a priority so that we can see the Kingdom’s efforts in this regard.”

“We clearly see the efforts to create an environment for excellence and innovation and establish rules on a knowledge economy based on products of the mind,” he said.
