Security forces foiled a major terrorist attack by arresting a suspect in Tanumah, southern Asir, on Thursday, and recovering explosives from his residence.

Security sources said the suspect was planning to implement a major terror plan in the Kingdom. Besides explosives, computers and other devices were also seized from his residence, the sources said.

The man was tracked by security authorities, who later captured him after coercing him into giving himself up. The suspect is being interrogated to know about the details of his terror plan, the sources added.

Meanwhile, the Special Criminal Court in Riyadh has jailed a Saudi and two Yemenis for terror-related activities.

The Saudi man was convicted of issuing fatwas against the rulers, and traveling to fight in Syria illegally, a local publication reported.

He joined Daesh, trained and was later injured in the leg while fighting for the group. He was also found guilty of financing terrorism by delivering cash and computers to Daesh members and storing prohibited videos in his mobile. The court sentenced him to seven years in prison. A travel ban was also slapped on him.

The court found that the two Yemenis used social networking sites to support the Houthis in Yemen. The first man was found guilty of using WhatsApp to send messages intended to destabilize the Kingdom. He was sentenced to three years and had his mobile phone confiscated.

The second Yemeni was convicted of the same offense, in addition to entering the country illegally.

The court sentenced him to four years in prison. He will be deported after he serves his sentence.
