No headmaster, no principal; the new title is school leader
Education Minister Azzam Al-Dakheel has approved to change the title of the headmaster or the principal to school leader with immediate effect.
The minister was endorsing the recommendations of the first school leadership conference held in Jeddah in March.
The conference adopted the recommendation with a view of enabling male and female principals to change the designation to school leaders and hence improve the school performance.
It asked for giving the leaders financial and moral incentives that will entrust more powers on them goading them to excel in their work.
The new title has come up in the ministry’s organizational directory for immediate use.
The conference also called for reviewing the mechanism of selecting the school leaders according to the parameters of quality and excellence.
It asked the school leaders to benefit from the opportunities resulting from merger of education and higher education ministries into a single entity and said all the boy and girl schools should be provided with all their needs so as to ensure high-quality education.
