Kingdom, Oman discuss Yemen, Syria

The Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman held official talks here today with Minister of Foreign Affairs Adel Bin Ahmed Al-Jubeir and Oman’s Minister Responsible for Foreign Affairs Yusuf Bin Alawi Abdullah reviewing bilateral relations between the two countries, in addition to discussing current developments on the regional and international arenas.

In a press statement reported by the Omani News Agency, Al-Jubeir said the talks were fruitful and constructive. He emphasized that the two sides held identical views over all issues discussed.

He pointed out the conformity of the two countries’ perspective on regional security and stability, adding the two nations agreed on a number of issues of mutual interest to the two countries and the region, including the situation in Yemen and Syria, intensifying cooperation among the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) member states and to consolidate security, stability and peace, in the Middle East.

Al-Jubeir said the meeting discussed the historically distinct bilateral relations between the Kingdom and the Sultanate and the means to promote as well as intensify them, in all fields.

Yusuf Bin Alawi confirmed that the Sultanate is exerting diplomatic efforts to reach a peaceful solution in Syria and Yemen, pointing out that all parties are looking for peaceful solutions based on diplomacy; a basic pillar of the Omani foreign policy outlined by Sultan Qaboos Bin Said.

He added that there are common grounds between the Sultanate and the Kingdom with relation to the existing conflicts in the region. He pointed out that the two brotherly countries agreed to focus on the future.

With respect to the Omani Embassy building in Sanaa, he added that the Sultanate is keen on ensuring compliance with international law.

As for his recent visit to Syria, he added that the visit was important in the light of what the Sultanate heard from the Syrian government. And it would be key for the Kingdom to listen to the Sultanate’s view.

As for attracting foreign investment to the Sultanate, he said that Oman is on the world map as one of the safe and lucrative investment destinations.
