Civil Defense ready for rainy weather
Civil Defense in Riyadh has drawn up a strategic plan to meet all eventualities in the event of flooding and rains in the region.
According to the Presidency of Meteorology and Environment (PME), thunderstorms accompanied by rain and sandstorm are predicted in areas such as Hail, Qassim, Rafha and Hafr Al-Batin and northern and western areas of Riyadh.
Asir and Jazan, Al-Baha, Makkah and eastern parts of the Madinah Province may experience similar climatic conditions which reach the heights of Asir and Jazan and extend it to Makkah.
Director of Civil Defense in Riyadh Maj. Gen. Ahmed bin Ayesh Ettalhi said that there will be 180 teams comprising 720 officers to attend to the emergency needs of those in distress due to inclement weather. The teams will be equipped with 330 machines to pump water out of flooded areas.
He said the plans are being implemented in coordination with the Riyadh municipality headed by Mayor Ibrahim bin Mohamed Al-Sultan.
He also said authorities will follow the SCADA electronic system to monitor rising water levels in reservoirs.
People have been requested to call toll free number 940 in any emergency during the rains.
The director general of operations and maintenance at Riyadh Civil Defense, Abdullah bin Hussein Al-Sharif, who made the presentation to senior officials of the team, said his organization is confident of handling any emergency situation during the anticipated bad weather.
Assistant Director of Civil Defense in Baha Maj. Gen. Abdulrahman Al-Ghamdi on Monday checked the readiness of the Civil Defense department in the Baha region during a meeting with his team of officials.
Maj. Gen. Al-Ghamdi stressed the importance of modernization, urging Civil Defense staff of to do their best to provide citizens and residents safety.
The Civil Defense Directorate of the Northern Border Province urged the public to take precautionary measures against the bad weather and follow its safety guidelines and instructions.
