Parents and private schools must sign detail contracts that would outline both parties’ responsibilities and prevent a hike in fees, according to a circular issued by the Education Ministry.

Nora Al-Uqala, director of private and foreign education at the Riyadh education department, said the contracts would stipulate other aspects of the relationship between parents and private schools.

This covers the documentation of education objectives and outcomes, including staffing at all levels, Saudization, training of women teachers, contacting parents through text message if their children are late or absent, and quality of services provided at school cafeterias, she was quoted as saying by a local publication.

Meanwhile, the education department in Hail held on Wednesday a meeting with the principals of private and foreign schools to discuss several topics, including the rights and obligations of all parties.

The participants at the meeting discussed the bylaws of the school, tuition fees, mechanisms to employ women, Saudis and foreigners for vacant positions, and the annual subsidies offered by the education ministry. There was also a discussion on visas for foreign teachers.

Earlier this year, Education Minister Azzam Al-Dakhil ordered provincial education administrations to stop private schools from increasing tuition fees, unless approved by the ministry.
