Newly arrived Palestine Consul General Mohammed Yahya Al-Assadi with journalists as they paid tribute to martyr Yasser Arafat on his death anniversary, in Jeddah on Tuesday.

The newly arrived Palestine Consul General Mohammed Yahya Al-Assadi paid tribute to martyr Yasser Arafat on his death anniversary and had an introductory meeting with journalists on Tuesday at the premises of the consulate in Jeddah.

Al-Assadi was posted to Egypt from 2013 till now and before that he was in Lebanon as the Palestinian special envoy.

Al-Assadi presented greetings from President Mahmoud Abbas and the relayed the president’s greetings to Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, Deputy Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and the Saudi people.

Al-Assadi told journalists that he visited the Kingdom before, but as envoy of Palestine this is his first posting in the Kingdom. He praised the hospitality, efforts and support of the Kingdom for the Palestinian cause and freedom.

He said the people of Palestine have had a long and strong relationship with the Kingdom, where for 60 years the Kingdom always supported their rights and helped Palestine and its people in all difficult times. He said that this strong bilateral relationship between the two countries’ governments and people will continue.

Al-Assadi said his meeting with Ambassador Ahmed Tayeb and other officials after joining his post was very fruitful.

He explained that Palestine and the people of Palestine need the help of international media as they are lacking in all types of development from cultivation to tourism.

He paid tribute to the late Palestine leader Yasser Arafat on his death anniversary. He said Arafat was the leader and initiator of their modern revolution, and for more than 50 years he launched an unrelenting struggle on various fronts, bringing back to life the name of Palestine and the cause of its people to the human conscience.

He said Arafat managed to place the question of Palestine on the world map. He explained Arafat was the first leader of the Palestine National Liberation Movement, where in 1964 in a meeting he said his famous quote “It’s a revolution until victory.”

Arafat died in France on Nov. 11, 2004, and his body was brought back to Ramallah wrapped in the Palestine flag in the presence of thousands of citizens who took part in his funeral.
