There is a pressing need for global efforts to combat corruption that would allow for sustainable development, the head of Saudi Arabia’s trade delegation said here after returning from the G-20 meeting in Turkey.

Abdul Rahman Al-Zamil, president of the Council of Saudi Chambers (CSC), who was one of the main participants at business meetings at the summit, reportedly said that the main issues were trade, investment in infrastructure, financing, recruitment, countering corruption, and developing small and medium businesses.

Al-Zamil said that sustainable development worldwide requires joint efforts to tackle corruption, which eats away at a country’s social and economic foundation. He said Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman had played a vital role in convincing business leaders to take up this issue.

Al-Zamil said the summit set a road map to increase flexibility in global trade activities. The other issues dealt with during the sessions included low-income countries, climate change, energy, and finding ways to grow the global economy.

The discussions included deepening dialogue and cooperation among G-20 and low-income countries, increasing investments, and implementing and following up on G-20 commitments. There was also a focus on involving businesses in development issues, including improving dialogue between G-20 leaders and representatives of the private sector.
