New Riyadh traffic diversions announced

The High Commission for the Development of Arriyadh (HCDA) has called on motorists to use alternative routes to Madinah Road in order to facilitate the construction of the Riyadh Metro project.

The new route began shunting traffic on Saturday to accommodate the flow of traffic during the work on the Orange Line.

According to guidelines, motorists going west on Madinah Road toward the Western Ring Road should use Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin-Baz, Muawiya bin Abi Sufyan, Aishah bint Abi Bakr and Bin-Jauz streets.

For eastbound traffic toward King Fahd Road, the streets mentioned above apply but in reverse order. North-south and south-north traffic at the intersection of Sheikh Bin-Baz and Hamza Streets with Madinah Road is said to have never been so easy. HCDA said that its diversion management plans aim for the smooth flow of traffic in work site roads as much as possible.

Part of the plan has been the distribution of more than 150,000 bulletins to homes, businesses and government offices in the area around the work sites. The bulletins explain the traffic plan and procedures as well as the temporary regulations applicable during the construction.

The authority has also updated its app which allows motorists to identify traffic diversions, and gives alternatives and other options. The app is available for smart devices and also shows streets experiencing heavy traffic.
