Argentinian Embassy honors Peru envoy
The Argentinian Embassy hosted a welcome reception on Monday night for Carlos Zapata, Peru’s new envoy in the Kingdom.
Argentinian Ambassador Jaime Sergio Cerda said: “The occasion intends to bolster ties among diplomats from South America and other countries with Saudi businessmen.”
The reception was held at his residence inside the Diplomatic Quarter with some 100 guests including 29 diplomats from South America and other countries.
He noted that Monday night’s event was a good opportunity for South American envoys to meet with fellow diplomats and local businessmen after the recent 4th Arab-South American (ASPA) summit in the Saudi capital.
“In this gathering, we not only welcome Peru’s new envoy to Saudi Arabia, Ambassador Carlos Zamora, but we will also discuss future plans and projects,” Ambassador Cerda said.
He added that the “diplomats could also discuss with Saudi counterparts or businessmen joint ventures, investment and trade, of which South American countries have much to offer.”
The annual volume of trade between Arab and South American countries has been in the region of $30 billion and both sides have expressed their commitment to develop cooperation further.
Peruvian Ambassador Zamora expressed his appreciation for the reception, “which shows the unity and goodwill of South American envoys in the performance of their diplomatic functions.”
“It also shows their rapport with Saudi counterparts and businessmen, judging from the number of guests who showed up for tonight’s gathering,” he said.
Uruguay’s Ambassador Carlos Mora, whose country holds the chair of the 12-nation Union of South American Nations said: “Meeting at a gathering like this is relaxing after a hard day’s work in the fulfillment of our diplomatic functions.
It’s also an opportunity to explore possibilities in strengthening our relations,” he said.
