KSA urges joint action to crush terror
Greater efforts are needed to tackle terrorism in the light of the escalation in attacks by extremist groups across the world, said Crown Prince Mohammed bin Naif, deputy premier and minister of interior.
Speaking at the 34th meeting of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) Interior Ministers in Doha on Wednesday, Prince Mohammed said this should include cutting off financing to these groups.
He called for concerted and coordinated efforts to defeat terrorism which is threatening the entire world.
Countries should not blame entire communities for actions carried out by those claiming to represent them, whether based on race, belief or nationality, he said.
“On this occasion, we emphasize our countries’ and peoples’ condemnation of the terrorist acts in Tunisia, France and Mali. We express full solidarity with all countries facing a threat of terrorism and will continue joint and coordinated efforts by our security authorities to combat terrorism,” he said.
The meeting was held in Doha under the chairmanship of Qatari Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Abdullah bin Nasser bin Khalifa Al-Thani, according to reports carried by the Saudi Press Agency.
The meeting also saw the signing of an agreement to set up the joint GCC force headquarters in the United Arab Emirates. The agreement was signed on behalf of the United Arab Emirates by its Deputy Prime Minister and Interior Minister Sheikh Said bin Zaid bin Sultan Al-Nahyan and GCC Secretary General Abdullatif bin Rashid Al-Zayani.
The GCC interior ministers later attended a ceremony that saw the signing of a memorandum of understanding between the Police College in Qatar and the GCC secretariat. The ministers also honored former members of the Commission of the Prince Naif bin Abdulaziz Award for Security Research.
The ministers held a closed meeting before the opening session attended by the official delegation accompanying the crown prince, including Ahmad bin Mohammed Al-Salem, undersecretary of the interior ministry, Said Al-Arabi Al-Harthi, adviser to the minister, and several officials.
Prince Mohammed returned to Riyadh on Wednesday after attending the meeting. He was seen off at the airport by Qatari Deputy Emir Sheikh Abdullah bin Hamad Al-Thani and the Qatari prime minister.
