Pakistan Navy warship PNS Tariq has arrived at Jeddah Islamic Port on a goodwill and training visit.

The ship, which arrived on Monday and is under the command of Capt. Syed Asad Ali Imran, had come from the Gulf of Aden after taking part in the international efforts against piracy and terrorism.

Members from the Royal Saudi Navy (RSN), including Naval and Air Attache Group Capt. Ibrahim Asad, were on hand to welcome the crew.

A reception was hosted onboard the PNS Tariq, which was attended by dignitaries and officers from the RSN, the consul general of Pakistan and crew members of Egyptian ships.

Commodore Saleh Al-Ghamdi and Consul General Shehryar Akbar Khan were the chief guests. Khan highlighted the strong relations between Saudi Arabia and Pakistan.

The PNS Tariq is named after Muslim leader Tariq bin Ziyad, who died in 720 CE.

The ship was acquired from the British Navy and received several modifications to her weapons and sensor systems.

The ship had her obsolete Sea Cat launcher removed and a quadruple Harpoon missile launcher and other weapons fitted in place. It also has a 114mm Mark 8 naval gun, two Oerlikon 20mm cannons, one Phalanx CIWS, two triple ASW torpedo tubes, two Mark 36 SRBOC chaff launchers, and a Type 182 towed decoy. It also carries one Lynx aircraft.
