Citizens offered free rides to voting centers
A Riyadh-based women’s philanthropic organization and Uber, a transportation service provider, have joined forces to give citizens free rides to polling centers in Riyadh, Jeddah and the Eastern Province.
It was announced by Rasha Al-Turki, Al-Nahda Philanthropic Society’s CEO for Women, who said that such cooperation is for mutual benefit. The free ride can be accessed through the Uber app.
“There is no doubt that any successful social cause needs cooperation from all parties, whether government bodies, private organizations or charitable societies.”
She said that transportation was a major hurdle for voters in previous elections. “As such, we have partnered with Uber to ease the problem.”
Majed Abu Khater, Uber Saudi head, said it is their duty to support Saudi men and women in participating in the development of society. “Thanks to our experience in 350 cities around the world, it has enabled us to deal with various complex markets like Saudi Arabia.”
He added: “Upon reviewing the municipal elections program and Al-Nahda’s role in the awareness drive, as well as education and training of citizens, we are providing this free service to voters. All one needs to do is book a car through the Uber app by entering a code. A car will be sent to pick him/her up.”
