The mosque plays a significant role in strengthening relations between the people and helps promote unity and integrity among citizens, asserted Prince Sultan bin Salman, president of the Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH).

The SCTNH chief made this remark during a session under the theme “Historic mosques” at the 5th National Urban Heritage Forum, which recently concluded in Al-Qassim.

He stressed the importance of taking care of historic mosques and appreciated the efforts made by various ministries, local authorities and communities toward their preservation, an SCTNH official said here Monday.

“Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman pays great attention to this matter and has instructed all of us take care of historical mosques and strengthen the role of mosques in society,” Prince Sultan added.

“We look forward to every citizen to consider himself responsible for the preservation and maintenance of mosques,” he said, adding, “the mosque should be the first place in which people gather and unite and for this reason, it must enjoy our great care and attention.”

The SCTNH and the Ministry of Islamic Affairs signed an agreement for protecting and preserving historical Islamic sites, historic mosques, roadside mosques and heritage endowment buildings.

Sheikh Abdul Rahman Al-Sudais, head of the Presidency of the Two Holy Mosques who moderated the session, pointed out that the preservation of national heritage, especially caring for historic mosques, is an important national and religious responsibility, “and all of us should contribute to this.”
