$7,000 = Jeddah to Cairo sans passport
An Egyptian sales representative working in the Kingdom managed to travel from Jeddah’s King Abdulaziz International Airport to Cairo without a passport, according to Egyptian security officials.
According to the passenger, he was forced to surpass security procedures at Jeddah airport to travel to his home country, after his sponsor failed to provide him with his passport.
Egyptian newspapers report the passenger managed to leave the Kingdom without a passport by relying on the help of an Indian national in exchange for a fee of $7,000.
He says he was left with no choice after being unable to return to his family for four years, and could not reach out to the Egyptian diplomatic mission in the Kingdom for fear of receiving his sponsor’s ire.
Officers at the Cairo airport discovered the passenger had no passport while completing entry procedures. At this point, the passenger admitted to escaping security personnel at the Kingdom in order to return to Egypt.
The passenger was held for questioning, while security authorities in the Kingdom were informed of the incident.
