Effat launches virtual reality research center

Virtual Reality


With an aim to develop projects through the design process in the areas of medicine, education, aviation, environment, security and others, Effat University launched the virtual reality research center in an opening ceremony held on Sunday with the support of the Nesma Holding Company.

The ceremony was held under the patronage and presence of Princess Lolowah Al-Faisal, vice chair of the board of trustees and general supervisor of Effat University, and Mr. Saleh Al-Turki, president & chairman of the Nesma Holding Company, with the attendance of officials from the community.

Al-Turki, who seeks to develop research and training in the Kingdom, said “This will open doors to the Saudi society and will help them to take advantage of the beneficial results that can be achieved by this center.”

Dr. Haifa Jamal, president of Effat University, expressed her appreciation to Nesma Company and said “We have sought to build and provide an advanced environment for the development of research at Effat University and in Saudi Arabia. By launching this center, we not only want to transform Saudi society to a knowledge society based on the orientations of Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman, but also to maintain the research and cognitive development of the university.”

Moreover, during the ceremony, Dr. Malak Al-Nouri, dean of graduate studies and scientific research, said that this center will change the learning environment and become a hub for virtual reality education.

The center will focus on providing high impact applications in certain areas such as pain management and control and to become a business incubator for new industry concepts and products. Likewise, it will also implement projects in collaboration with other universities and organizations specialized in virtual reality.

Dr. Wadee Al-Halabi, director of the virtual reality center said: “The biometric and sensor systems lab in the center is developing technology that will provide a higher level of security, convenience and efficiency than traditional password methods for user authentication.”
