900 disabled citizens land jobs at private enterprises
As many as 900 disabled Saudis were employed by various local firms participating in the 2nd National Employment Forum for disabled persons which concluded here this week.
In his opening speech, Prince Sultan bin Salman, chairman of Disabled Children’s Association (DCA), called on the private sector and enterprises to empower the disabled with skills and provide them with job opportunities.
The DCA, in collaboration with King Saud University, organized the event attended by 3,000 visitors. Over 2,000 applicants made direct contact with local firms in search of jobs, said the organizer.
Prince Sultan said disability has become a priority issue for the Kingdom. He pointed out that the state support for the disabled has been constant. “Disabled people have proven as profitable investment and have special abilities.”
The event seeks to check the negative impact of disability on the individual and society, said Prince Sultan, who is also the chairman of the Board of Trustees of the King Salman Center for Disability Research (KSCDR).
“Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman has been supportive of the cause of disability in the Kingdom for the last 30 years. The country never hesitated to support the needs of its programs and projects undertaken by the DCA,” he said.
Urging the private sector to play a role while the leadership extends support to them, Prince Sultan said that without such support, stability and prosperity in private sector institutions would not be possible. “So, we all have a responsibility toward the community in general and the disabled in particular,” he said.
Badran Al-Omar, KSU rector, said the first event had gained the support and satisfaction of various stakeholders. “Hence, we decided to have this second addition as manifestation of our continued support to this important community segment,” he added.
