Celebrating the completion of 14 years, PACE Toastmasters Club held its annual club contest with an array of interesting talks under the theme “Involve, Invoke, Inspire.”

The meeting was called to order by Jimmy Chacko, president of PACE Toastmasters Club. “I request all senior members to put full involvement and contribute to the growth of making a difference,” he said. The opening address was followed by speeches from the Division H Director Lakshman Sockalingam and Area 18 Director Abdul Azeez Thankayathil.

Shanthi Lakshman, the master of ceremony for the evening, encouraged the active participation in the meetings in order to enhance one’s leadership and communication skills. During the event, Lakshman was also awarded the Distinguished Toastmasters (DTM) title for her achievements.

“The purpose of Toastmasters is to boost one’s self development,” said Rashid Ali, Program Quality Director at District 79. “It is essential to regularly attend meetings, whether or not you have a role to play.”

The program for the evening included a humorous speech contest, table topics contest, evaluation contest and an international speech contest, which were conducted by Bala Subramanian, Mohamed Fawzi, Rajeev Nair and Biju Chacko respectively.

The target speaker, Amit Anoop, whose speech was to be evaluated by the participants in the evaluation contest, delivered a message which revolved around the famous proverb “A bird in the hand is worth two in the bush.”

The winners of the different contest categories were Aboobacker Abdulrahman, Sumaiya Ilyas, Veecymole Issac, Sabarinath Prasad and Surendrapal Singh Ajimal.

“PACE Toastmasters has given me the passion and confidence to voice out my thoughts,” said Sumaiya, winner of the International Speech contest.

Ilyas, who also won second place in the evaluation contest and third place in the table topics contest, mentioned that she hopes to win in the area contest and keep moving forward till the international convention in Washington, DC.

The first two winners of each category are set to represent the club at the Area 18 contest to be conducted in February next year.

“It is our responsibility to keep morale in each toastmasters club,” said Johnygene Padillo, public relations manager of District 79. Judging the talents of the participants, he commented that the next Mohamed Al-Qahtani will be from PACE Toastmasters Club.

Saudi Toastmaster Mohamed Al-Qahtani bagged the Winning Speech title at the 2015 Toastmasters Championship in Las Vegas, bringing pride to the Kingdom.
