The Jeddah Chamber of Commerce and Industry (JCCI) plans to attract 1 million visitors to its shopping and entertainment festival, known as Hayya Jeddah, which takes place from Jan. 7 to Feb. 7.

Adnan bin Hussein Mandoura, the secretary general of the JCCI, said recently the plan is to ensure there is a major influx of Saudi and Gulf Cooperation Council citizens and residents.

He said details of the event would be announced shortly, but promised it would be bigger and better than previous years. The aim is to involve a range of sectors, include retail and tourism, to boost Jeddah’s profile in the world.

Mandoura said there were many companies interested in sponsoring parts of the event. He called on festivals and events director, Mohammed Abdul Rahim, to work with various parties to ensure it is a success.

Jeddah Gov. Prince Mishaal bin Majed, who is also chairman of the Tourism Promotion Council, is overseeing preparations for the festival. Participating businesses can display their names in promotional campaigns and in the free directory for discount sales and coupons, and have information centers set up inside commercial centers.
