Shoura pushes for Haia ‘behavior book’
The Shoura Council has urged the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention of Vice (Haia) to implement its strategic plan, which includes compiling a list of banned behaviors that can help prevent adverse interpretations by its field workers.
The Shoura, at its third ordinary session chaired by Speaker Sheikh Abdullah Al-Asheikh on Monday, was deliberating on a report presented by its committee on Islamic and judicial affairs on the Haia’s 2014/2015 report.
The Shoura recommended that the list of prohibited behaviors, contained in a guide, must be provided for Haia field members to carry out their work properly. The recommendation for a guide was presented by Shoura member Maj. Gen. Abdullah Al-Sadoun.
The Shoura also called on the Haia to provide education institutions with reasons for people committing violations and how to address them; and further urged it to develop executive regulations to organize its work.
Later, the Shoura deliberated on a report, which included urging the airline to improve various services, especially for special needs people, and dealing with flight delays.
One member said citizens were using other Gulf airlines, which he attributed to “unjustified” stops in Riyadh and Jeddah. Another member said the new 96 aircraft now forming part of the Saudia fleet, were replacements and not additions. Another member expressed surprise at the continued losses reported by the company despite huge government support, while another member said these costs must not be borne by passengers through higher ticket prices but from further cuts in unnecessary spending.
One member suggested the establishment of a low-cost private airline, while another member called for the reconsideration of the company along the lines of other successful aviation firms.
Meanwhile, the Shoura has asked the Saudi Red Crescent Society to study the possibility of using remote-controlled vehicles in its operations. This was a recommendation by member Tariq Fadaq.
