The government has allocated SR9 billion for several projects in four provinces in the western region, Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal said here Wednesday.

The prince made this statement at the conclusion of his tour of four provinces — Qunfudah, Adhm, Laith and Artiyat — in the western region. The projects included developments in education, health and communications. He thanked Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques King Salman for his unstinted support for the progress of these projects which are set to provide a better living for the people in this part of the Kingdom.

The governor pointed out that the earmarked projects are well underway and will be completed within the time given by the government.

The governor said that the final stage of preparations of the proposed airport in Qunfudah is at the final stages. The General Authority for Civil Aviation (GACA) has secured land for building a new airport in the southern coastal city and now the proposal has been referred to the Jeddah municipality for necessary approval. The proposed site for the airport is in the Jabal Murshid area, southeast of the city.

According to the prince, GACA is planning to hand the construction of the airport to the private sector.

He said some 302 projects are being carried out in Qunfudah in education, health, municipal services and investment sectors. “They include two university projects in the northern and eastern parts of the province,” he added.
