Makkah Gov. Prince Khaled Al-Faisal has ordered a leading Saudi businessman to remove part of his driveway that was blocking a service street on Sari Road in Jeddah after complaints from citizens.

Sahar Nassef, a university professor, and Laila Al-Ghamdi, a lawyer, said the decision showed that citizens were playing an increasing role in reporting violations by individuals, ministries and government agencies, according to a report in a local publication on Tuesday.

Al-Ghamdi said citizens have the right to enjoy and benefit from the services provided by the state, but have noticed that many basic services are missing in many neighborhoods, such as schools, gardens and clinics.

Prince Khaled instructed that the blockage be removed within 24 hours, after confirming that the businessman had closed part of the road to use it as a private entrance. The Jeddah municipality began carrying out the instruction on Monday morning.
