Gunmen killed a citizen and injured an eight-year-old boy in Awamiya, Qatif, on Sunday night, police announced on Monday.

A police spokesman said the firing took place around 11:30 p.m. on Sunday, when the regular police patrol was checking on a heavy truck, which was allegedly stolen from its owners.

“Suddenly there was heavy gunfire from an unknown direction,” the spokesman said, revealing that gunshots killed Ali Imran Dawood and injured Mohamed Jaafar Althifa, who was rushed to the nearest hospital. Police said the child is now out of danger. They added that the gunmen fled the scene. An investigation has been launched.

In a separate incident in the same village, police received a complaint from a citizen claiming he was robbed of his belongings, and abandoned on the street.

On rushing to the scene, police found that a group of armed men had kidnapped the victim and taken him to an agricultural farm in the village where they robbed him of his wallet, phones and vehicle.

Police said the kidnapping took place around 10 a.m. on Sunday.
