Five people died and 18 others, including four children, sustained injuries in separate road accidents in the last 24 hours in the Kingdom.

An official at the Saudi Red Crescent Authority (SRCA) said Sunday that two people were killed on the spot while eight others were injured in three separate accidents on Al-Hair road, Asheerah road and in Al-Humaiyat area in the Riyadh region.

One of the cases was a single-vehicle accident, while the two others resulted from a head-on collision.

The SRCA official said that their operations room received two emergency calls on Saturday night and one on Sunday morning. Their teams immediately rushed to the locations.

Those who needed first aid for minor injuries were provided treatment, while those with critical injuries were extended help and transported by air ambulance to the appropriate facility for more advanced treatment.

Later, one of the critically injured patients succumbed to multiple injuries.

In another road accident on Sunday morning, a man and a woman were killed and 11 others, including four children, were injured in a head-on collision between two speeding cars on the Taif-Al-Baha road.

The SRCA control room in the resort city of Taif dispatched its mobile team, which rushed to the scene. Nine of the injured were taken to King Faisal Hospital while two others were admitted to King Abdulaziz Specialist Hospital.

In a collective effort to reduce the growing number of road accidents, the General Directorate of Traffic (GDT), Saudi Commission for Tourism and National Heritage (SCTNH) and the Disabled Children’s Association recently launched a nationwide awareness campaign titled “Allah Yatik Khairha” (May Allah bless you with goodness) last month.
