Fingerprinting made mandatory for expat children above 6

The Passport Department on Thursday said expatriates in the kingdom must have their children aged six and above registered and fingerprinted.

Talal Al-Shalhoub, spokesman for the department, said expat families who have children covered by this new regulation should register urgently. Failure to do so could result in denial of services for an expat family.

Before this new requirement, only expatriate dependents aged 16 and above were required to register.

Al-Shalhoub said this requirement was phased in starting November 2014 to allow women to exit and return, and change professions. It became mandatory in January 2015.

Registration can take place at any Passport Department office, he said. Expatriates are required to produce their passports and residence permits when while registering.
