Saudi-funded Bangladesh schools, shelters opened
The second batch of schools and shelters funded by a Saudi charity has been handed to a Bangladeshi community affected by a recent cyclone.
Prince Badr bin Abdullah, a board member of the King Abdullah International Humanitarian Foundation (KAIHF), delivered the facilities to the people of Amtali city in southern Bangladesh.
Addressing the ceremony on Tuesday night, Prince Badr asked Allah to reward those involved in the project, including blessings for the late King Abdullah. Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina also spoke at the event.
He said that the KAIHF was doing everything it can to carry on the humanitarian work of his late father. King Abdullah had established many institutions to serve humanity irrespective of race, color, nationality or faith. He had also encouraged dialogue between people, said Prince Badr.
The other areas that King Abdullah had helped develop included education, assisting talented citizens, health facilities, housing, and support for people with disabilities, he said.
In addition, the late monarch launched projects to teach the Qur’an and Islamic law at schools and universities. There were also emergency provisions for people across the country.
The event was attended by Prince Turki bin Abdullah, the chief executive officer of KAIHF, head of the Islamic Development Bank Group Ahmed Mohammed Ali, Saudi Ambassador to Bangladesh Abdullah Al-Mutairi and other officials.
