Abandoned cars a safety problem in Riyadh

Old Broken Cars

Broken down cars abandoned in several locations of the city not only pose as an environment hazard, but they are also used as storage facilities for illicit products, residents say. They warned about an increase in this phenomenon lately and called for urgent intervention by the authorities.

Moaz Saleh said Umm Al-Hamma District suffers from the widespread problem of broken down cars. “It’s becoming a security and safety issue. People are using these cars to hide illicit and stolen products. It’s important that the authorities remove these abandoned cars and penalize their owners,” he said.

Ahmed Al-Ghobaini called on the Riyadh Municipality and Traffic Police to form a committee and make an inventory of abandoned vehicles scattered all over the capital city. “They must identify the owners who are negligent about their cars and make sure they get fined to put an end to this problem. Streets are not a place to dump unused cars,” said Al-Ghobaini.
