A massive fountain was formed following a water pipe burst in Riyadh.

Water from a burst pipe flooded a major highway in the capital, leading to traffic chaos and a spectacle in the desert on Friday.

The incident at the intersection between Janadriah with Khuraish Road caused a massive flood leading to jams at several points.

Sultan Al-Otaibi, spokesman of the General Establishment for Water Desalination, said a team was sent to the scene to handle the situation at No. 2, one of the 12 main supply lines to Riyadh.

He said the incident took place at 1 p.m. on Friday near the Thumama junction. A team from the operation and maintenance section rushed to the scene. Work is under way to fix the pipe. Water supply will be resumed in few days, he said,

The incident has not affected the Riyadh Metro project, said Al-Otaibi.

The impact of the burst pipe will be limited, as feeder line No. 12 will supply the water besides other terminals originating from Ras Al-Khair station, he explained.
