Charities need permission to work abroad

Ministry-of-interior

Citizens and social service organizations in the Kingdom have been asked to get prior approval from the authorities to carry out charitable projects abroad.

The Ministry of Interior on Sunday advised citizens and all Saudi societies that those wishing to carry out charitable projects outside the Kingdom should become informed on procedures to provide assistance in those countries.

The director general of relations and the media department at the ministry, Maj. Gen. Mohammed bin Abdullah Al-Maraol, explained that approval from the relevant Saudi authorities is required before proceeding with their operations abroad.

Besides the need to get prior approval from the states and governments abroad, the director general said that they should take into consideration the rules and instructions of the respective counties and comply with them to avoid investigations.

He pointed out that entities eligible to provide assistance outside the Kingdom include the King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid and the National Campaign in Support of Syrian People.

The King Salman Center for Relief and Humanitarian Aid, launched in Riyadh in June last year and headed by Abdullah Al-Rabeeah, is expected to streamline the Kingdom’s donations to distressed people across the world.

Through the Saudi National Campaign in Support of Syrian People, the Kingdom has further intensified its relief efforts to alleviate the sufferings of Syrians affected by the ongoing war in that country.
