Fire creates panic at Jazan hospital
Less than two months after a massive fire ripped through Jazan General Hospital, leaving 24 people dead and 123 others wounded, another fire broke out in Abu Ariesh Hospital in the region creating panic among patients and staff.
However, the fire did not cause any casualties or damage.
Tragic memories of the fire at Jazan General Hospital on Dec. 24, 2015, came back to the minds of the patients and the medical personnel at Abu Ariesh Hospital when they saw smoke billowing out of the physiotherapy center of the hospital.
According to hospital sources, it was a small fire that was put out by security guards before Civil Defense units arrived.
The sources said the fire was caused by an electric short in one of the lighting lamps. They said as a precautionary measure, electricity was cut off from the building.
The scene of a large number of Civil Defense vehicles and ambulances within the boundaries of the hospital increased fear among patients but they were soon reassured when the safety and security staff put out the fire before it spread to other places in the hospital.
Hussein Maashi, spokesman for Jazan Health Affairs, said the staff raised the alarm when smoke started coming out of a light lamp at the corridor of the physiotherapy section and security guards immediately moved to control the situation.
He said no deaths, injuries or property damage was caused by the fire, adding that work in the hospital continued uninterrupted.
The spokesman said the incident was being investigated.
