The Ministry of Commerce and Industry (MCI) recalled 763,949 cars for various defects during 2015, a statement by the ministry’s recall center has said.

The MCI keeps customers informed of its operations regarding the recall of cars through its website Recalls.sa or through local media.

The website carries information about any defects or malfunctions that may arise in the goods that are considered a safety risk. The ministry also follows up on such defects with global and local companies.

According to statistics unveiled for last year, the total recalls of various consumer goods reached 240. Cars recorded the highest number of recalls at 224, while the remaining 16 included electrical and electronic devices. More than 350 announcements were published for such recalls in local newspapers.

The largest number of recalls were 100,548 Toyota Camry cars (2007-2011 models) due to a defect in the window keys that may cause short-circuits.

Among the prominent cars against which action was take were Toyota Corollas (2006-2011 models). A total of 65,140 vehicles of this make were recalled for adding a smart break system to limit vehicle acceleration, the MCI said. Also, 15,964 Honda Accords (2015-2016 models) were recalled due to a defect in the engine that could produce annoying sound or engine failure.

The most important recall was for 2,504 Hyundai Genesis cars, model 2015, due to the possibility of air leakage from the tires that could lead to its damage.
