The Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and the Prevention of Vice (Haia) has arrested several gay men here who had apparently “married” each other secretly.

Sources were quoted as saying in a local publication on Tuesday that Haia members, acting on reports on social media, raided an apartment in Al-Quds neighborhood.

When they arrived, they found two young men, aged 28, who appeared to be gays. They were arrested and later revealed that they had married a few days before at a rest area in the southern part of the city, and had then moved in together.

The men also said they had attended a similar party in a local neighborhood a week before which was attended by many gays, and which had been documented on social media websites such as Snapchat.

Sources said the Haia members found video clips of the parties. Also confiscated were female clothing, bags, cosmetics, hair extensions and four bottles of locally made wine.
