Put Israel on notice to end crimes: KSA
The Kingdom has called on the Security Council to set Israel a time frame to abide by international agreements to withdraw from occupied Palestinian territory, stop building settlements and erecting apartheid-style walls.
Abdallah Al-Mouallimi, ambassador of the Kingdom at the United Nations, made this appeal at a meeting of the Security Council on Tuesday night. He said Israel was defying the international community by working to Judaize Al-Quds and historic Islamic and Christian sites, and changing Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Al-Mouallimi also thanked the Security Council for its condemnation of Iran for the “barbaric assault” on the Saudi Embassy in Tehran and the country’s Consulate General in Mashhad city.
On the Syrian crisis, Al-Mouallimi said the Security Council has not been able over the past five years to perform its duty to protect the Syrian people from the “acts of murder, intimidation, starvation and genocide being committed by the Syrian authorities.”
He said this has resulted in the killing of more than 300,000 people and the displacement of over 12 million, in addition to the destruction of the country and creation of terrorist groups that were threatening the whole world.
“We affirm the condemnation of all types of blockades imposed around several Syrian cities and villages and the use of starvation as a tool of war by all parties.”
He said there are 49 out of 52 cities under siege by the Syrian authorities with the aid of Hezbollah and other terrorist groups.
“The only way to solve this humanitarian catastrophe is through a political solution … We will also continue our work through the International Support Group on Syria to ensure the political transition process based on the Vienna and Geneva statements,” he said.
