Grand Mufti Sheikh Abdulaziz Al-Asheikh inaugurated this week a campaign to safeguard Saudi society against bad influences.

“The campaign seeks to immunize society in the Kingdom from deviant ideas as well as utter lies and heresies that could lead people off track,” the Grand Mufti said.

The six-month campaign is being conducted by the Cooperative Offic e for Call and Guidance.

“The campaign is extremely important to help counter the espousal of terrorist tendencies particularly among the young people,” he said.

He added that under the campaign a series of lectures will be conducted in different mosques, exhibitions , shows, among others, with the aim of strengthening the moral values of citizens and residents of the Kingdom.

He said that authorities and relevant groups had been closely monitoring activities and information disseminated in public but

agents of disinformation somehow manage to peddle heresies and stark lies.

“They resort to every conceivable means to carry out their evil plans. They’re articulate and persuasive in peddling their ideas which are bereft of truth. It’s because they underwent training to carry it out,” Al-Asheikh said.

He said that for this reason, there’s “an urgent and compelling reason to collectively step up the campaign to counteract bad influences that could undermine Islamic faith and lead people off track.”

He added that this is because agents of terrorism who spread heresies and lies have resorted to every conceivable means to promote their evil designs.

“It’s a fact that the satellite channels and social media have been agents of disinformation and purveyors of heresies and utter lies to promote chaos and destroy the fabric of society,” he said.

He added that this is particularly dangerous as far as the youth are concerned since they have been more eager to have access the Internet or Facebook and Twitter than their elders.
