Over 260,000 emergency cases recorded in 2014
The total number of emergency cases transferred to hospitals in 2014 was 260,789 by means of 1,328 ambulances and 360 aid stations located in 13 regions of the Kingdom. There was an average of 724 cases for each station, and 196 cases for every ambulance, a recent statistical report revealed.
According to the report, 55.9 percent of all transferred emergency cases were due to diseases, while the percentage of cases due to traffic accidents stood at 33 percent.
The report showed that Makkah’s hospitals topped the number of cases transferred by ambulances with 81,798 cases, followed by Riyadh region with 54,721 cases, then the Eastern Province with 31,295 cases, and Madinah with 24,233 cases.
In addition, Asir region recorded 17,538 cases, Qassim 12,877 cases, Tabuk 8733 cases, Jazan 8,004 cases, Hail 5,324 cases, Baha 5,134 cases, Al-Jawf 4,152 cases, the Northern Borders with 3,859 cases, and finally Najran with 3,121 cases.
Regarding the number of ambulances in various regions in the country, there are 76 ambulances in the Central Region, 68 in Makkah, 53 in the Eastern Province, 29 in Asir, 27 in Madinah, followed by 19 in Qassim and 18 in Tabuk, 13 in both Jizan and Al-Baha, 12 in Al-Jouf, 11 each in Hail and the Northern Borders, and finally Najran with only 10.
The report showed an increase in emergency cases received by the Saudi Red Crescent Society during the last five years. the number was 260,789 in 2014, compared to 222,841 in 2013, 228,988 in 2012, 214,697 in 2011, and 203,460 in 2010.
On the types of emergency cases transferred by the Saudi Red Crescent Society, the report said that the total number of cases was 260,789, including 86,120 due to road accidents, 8,730 quarrels, 14,090 fainting, 1,597 burns, 121 drowning incidents, 145,803 due to diseases, and other accidents were 4,328.
In Makkah, there were 23,973 emergencies due to road accidents, 4,067 in quarrels, 5,040 fainting cases, 661 burns and 47 cases of drowning, and other accidents recorded 1,526 cases, while diseases resulted in 46,484 of the total number of emergency cases in the region.
Riyadh region recorded 21,882 cases due to road accidents, 871 in quarrels, 2,007 faintings, 230 burns, 28,817 due to diseases, and 907 other recorded accidents. In the Eastern Province, there were 10,830 road accidents, 908 quarrels, 1,740 fainting cases, 261 cases of burns, 14 drowning cases, 346 other accidents, and 17,196 cases due to diseases.
