The King Abdullah City for Dates (KACD) in Al-Ahsa, in coordination with the Al-Ahsa municipality, has issued certificates of origin for the completion of export procedures for more than 10,000 tons of dates. The move aims at providing support and assistance to small farmers and traders in the agricultural oasis of Al-Ahsa.

Mohammed Ismail, director general of KACD, said: “Al-Ahsa municipality, in coordination with the Ministry of Trade and Industry, is working to complete the issuance of certificates of origin for the export of these products. This will overcome the difficulties encountered by farmers and traders who want to export and market their dates to various countries around the world.”

Ismail said that the municipality played a significant role in this by creating technical specialized labs to detect the safety of the dates meant for export. It issues certificates of quality certificates, attesting to their safety concerning microbial content and residual pesticides. Other basic tests are also carried out, including physical examinations, in preparation for the issuance of certificates of origin which will allow the products to cross land, sea and air borders.

In addition, Ismail confirmed that the competent authorities are currently coordinating with international specialists in running the new specialized labs in accordance with the highest international specifications and standards.

Meanwhile, Al-Ahsa Mayor Adel Al-Mulhim revealed that the deadline for the opening of 350 stores in KACD is in the next 18 months. The KACD will serve as an integrated market, calling all traders and investors in this field to open other stores for dates in the malls inside and outside Al-Ahsa.

Al-Mulhim said the mayoralty is continuing its support for dates and date products in order to achieve the aspirations of the leadership in supporting the community at all levels, noting that the implementation of more than one festival a year for marketing manufactured dates is difficult at the present time.
