‘Drugs intended to destroy Saudi youth’
The aim of drug producers and smugglers is not just money but also to destroy the youth of the nation, Brig. Gen. Ahmad Al-Zahrani, head of the General Directorate of Anti-Narcotics Department, said recently.
“With the cooperation of Arab and other friendly countries, we have apprehended a large number of drug smugglers who move across the world to transport illegal substances. Indeed, the Kingdom has become a role model in terms of fighting this scourge,” he has been quoted as saying by local media.
The quantities of drugs seized in Saudi Arabia in recent times were equivalent to two thirds of the total amount seized all over the world, he said.
Al-Zahrani was speaking during the launch of the national project for the prevention of drug abuse in Riyadh.
“The drugs smuggled into the Kingdom are manufactured in secret factories, and the anti-drugs body knows their locations. It has been proven that many of the drugs seized by authorities have been made specifically for Saudi Arabia, and are made up of a range of severely dangerous materials,” he said. “People should know that we have so far succeeded in thwarting the plans of some of the biggest international drug smuggling operations globally,” he said.
About the fight against drugs, he said, “Our work is based on two axes: One involves security and intelligence information while the other involves prevention. Our security authorities continue to combat drugs with the cooperation of global organizations and within the frame of international agreements.”
